Painting, Luminous Abstract
Marylin was born in Alice Springs, Central Australia and currently lives and works in Upwey in the Dandenong Ranges, Victoria with her husband.
In a prior chapter Marylin was an art teacher, enjoying nurturing the creative process in her students, and being the mother of two lovely daughters. Hand-in-hand with these occupations came the continuing study of and commitment to painting and drawing. As a practising artist Marylin explored abstracted landscape and tonal still life for many years finally arriving at an enduring style simply described as contemplative abstraction.
A recent move from the city to the mountains has brought a refreshing delight to Marylin’s practice through daily emersion in the natural environment.
Marylin’s works reflect a deepening and personal visual response to the inner understanding of the psyche, the changing natural environment and the events in our human world. Marylin’s visual style is an expressive process starting with a first mark on paper, wood or linen which then develops through rhythmic line, emotive colour and the loving construction of aesthetic surfaces in a variety of media including gouache, oil and wax encaustic. Subtle landscape and figurative references may appear through the play of colour, shape and mark making.
Marylin has exhibited her in group and solo shows in Melbourne and interstate over the past years receiving two highly commended awards for drawing and two prizes for painting.
