“Why shouldn’t Art be pretty? There is enough unpleasant things in the world.”- Renoir
Cathie is a multi award winning Artist. Thirty five years ago, when she first started painting, she never imagined where this journey would take her. She just wanted to paint Gum Trees like Hans Heysen; she has been to Hahndorf, “The Cedars” - Hans’s property, and painted in the same spot where Hans painted.
Cathie's first teacher was Landscape Artist, Ernie Trembath, and she also studied Life drawing with Carol Boothman for four years. To further her skills, in 1995, she attended a course in Portraiture with Daniel E Greene in the United States.
In the late nineties, she moved to Mooroolbark, overlooking the beautiful Yarra Valley. The Yarra Valley has been an inspiration to many of Cathie’s paintings, especially the Historical and old buildings. Sadly, many of these old buildings have been pulled down, but there are a few to be found, hidden behind hedges and up long driveways.
She has travelled overseas and painted in many countries. To be able to study the Master’s like Degas, John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Monet, Manet and Mary Cassatt paintings and drawings has been an incredible experience. To sketch the buildings and streets where Mozart and Bartok walked and to study the rooftops and domes in the cities like Budapest, Salzburg, Vienna and Venice; she feels so blessed and hopes there will be many more paintings to create and roads to travel.
